Inspiration

I stink at living a disciplined life. I like to start things, but never finish them. I’ll get ambitious about an idea, only to get bored with it. Something I’m changing this year is adding a lot more discipline and better goal setting.

My brother @scottmagdalein told me something that changed everything, ‘most people want to start running..here’s what they need to do is not sign up for a 5k or half-marathon, they just need to run everyday for two weeks and build from therethey need discipline not a goal.’ Now, I know this illustration is about running, but the principle is transferable to more things.

:: Principle: you need discipline before you set a goal. ::

After hearing him share that, I got busy on creating a little more discipline in my life. Here’s a couple disciplines I’ve been working on:

- Exercise five days a week, with two rest days.
- Wake up every morning at 5:45 am.
- Read my Bible every morning during breakfast.
- Eating healthier foods.
- Articulating my theology.

In the next few installments of this post, I’ll share some of the processes and goals I’m setting to develop better discipline and achieving my goals.

Imagine this:

- The top five biggest venues in the world
- One day worship event
- A small I mean very small image of what heaven might look like

The top five biggest venues are:
- Rungrado May Day Stadium, North Korea, Capacity: 150,000
- Salt Lak Stadium, India, 120,000
- Michigan Stadium, USA, 110,000
- Beaver Stadium, USA, 108,000
- Estadio Azteca, Mexico, 105,000

How killer would be to throw an event of over half a million people worshipping Jesus across the world at the same time. I don’t think I can comprehend the vastness, but smallness of that many people worshipping Jesus. If this event ever happened, I’d call it ‘Glimpse of Heaven’. An event to give us a sneak peak of heaven.

Sometimes I find it useful to learn more about the gear and tools people use on a daily basis. Here’s a glimpse of my daily office tools.

I use my 15in Macbook Pro for everything. There are days I want to downsize to a 13inch, but find I need the additional screen space to edit photos and do design work. I’ve been taking photos with my new Canon t2i, but honestly, wish I had the 5D. I’d love to be able to utilize the full frame sensor.

I use two types of moleskine journals. I use this one to take down bible notes, sketch out stuff, and to record random tidbits. And, I’ll use this one to memorizing scripture only.

I use to own an iPhone 3gs, but traded it for a Nexus S. There’s things I absolutely love about it and cause me to not miss my iPhone. But, I am very envious of the iPhone 4 at times. I switched carriers awhile back to save some money. Overall, I am very pleased with the Nexus S.

I carry everything in this messenger bag.

Online, I use gmail, google calendars, google docs, evernote, and dropbox. I love how my gmail account syncs perfectly with my Nexus S. I don’t miss at all having to sync my contacts and calendars by plugging it in. I read the Bible through Youversion. I am connected via social media on Twitter, Facebook, and Flickr.

And on my desktop I use Photoshop, Aperture, and iPhoto. I think I’m running a Photoshop from like 3 generations ago…any have an extra license to update me!

How about you, what are some daily tools, programs, or gear you use? I’d love to find out about some new ones!
