Goals for 2009

I'm learning to be more specific about my goals.
Here's what I hope to accomplish this year.

1. 20 Preaching Engagements.
- Last year I got to preach on average once a month. This year I'd like to be able to preach about 20 times. Preaching is my passion and I'm going to pour a lot time this year focused on preaching. This year I'd like to preach on average of two times a month.
2. Exercise three times a week.
- I want to be able to exercise is some form about three times a week. (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday)
3. 12 days of prayer, fasting, and bible reading.
- I'm planning on spending one day month of doing nothing but praying, fasting, and bible reading. I have a specific location ready to go to once every month to spend the entire day in prayer, fasting, and bible reading.
4. Finish Master's Degree.
- The plan is to have the degree completed by August 2009.
5. Weekly prayer.
- I want to commit to prayer for one hour on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Prayer is a weakness of mine and I hope to strengthen my commitment to prayer this year.
6. Be anal about our home budget.
- I've been working a lot this Christmas break on our budget. I plan on saving 10% each month and keeping a tighter budget this year. This goal is little more vague then the rest.

Hello again, see you tomorrow

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Years.

I hope you didn't make too many New Year's resolutions.
I don't want you to be too heartbroken when you don't keep them.

You should just take what I do instead,
I make New Year Solutions, to last year's problems.

See you tomorrow here at boydbettis.com.

Sunday Recap

Today was a good day. I got to preach at Rivertown Church.

- I feel both services the messages were strong, but I think the first one was the best of the two.
- I taught out of Luke 2. I challenged our church on Luke 2:11, the angels announced that the baby Jesus was the Savior, Christ, and Lord. I taught that we forget often what that what that means to us and how Christmas would be different if we really lived that out. I also, taught that Christmas isn't just about the birth of a baby, but the day salvation arrived.
- We handed out some yard signs promoting our Christmas Eve Service.
- Our attendance was kind of low. We had a handful of college students home for Christmas and some regulars gone for the week.
- I had Scott, close out the service with 'No Greater Love' by Casey Darnell. I thought it was a strong closer to really make the message hit home.

Overall, it was a good Sunday.
I can't wait until our Christmas Eve Service it's going to be awesome!

A sad reason

The saddest reason people don't become Christians:

isn't because of habitual sin
isn't poverty
isn't idols
isn't ignorance
isn't pridefulness
isn't adultery

It's knowing Christians who won't share the gospel with them.

The worst thought I have is knowing people who will go to hell,
because I got to afraid to share the Gospel with them.

Blog pimping and shout outs aren't enough

As I swift through the blog world,
I see a ton of blogs promo different social justice movements and projects.

I think it's great.
I think it's awesome to help further the causes.

But, I often wonder how many people do it for the cool factor, rather than the cause. I read on one blog, they had 3,000 plus promoting the cause, but nearly half actually gave to it.

If you're going to promo a social justice movement or cause,
back it up with some cash flow as well.

If your pimping:
Tom's Shoes, buy a pair.
Compassion, sponsor a child.
500 Uniforms, buy a uniform.
____________, buy _________.

Don't cop out and say you played your part by letting others know because you 'pimped' it on your blog.

Is it just me or do you feel the same wonder sometimes?

A national week long holiday

I don't know about you, but I think we all need to propose a call for the approval of a new national holiday. But it get's better than that, how about a national week long holiday!

Think about the last week of the year.
Nobody really does anything...right?

It's the week after Christmas and the week before New Years.
Everyone should have the week off and businesses should close.

What do you think?
You with me?

Do you really do anything that week?
Seriously...
